Insurance and Financial Advisor: Former CareFirst CEO has a new gig with software development firm
William L. Jews, former CEO of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, has been hired as an advisor to a Glenwood, Md.-based software development firm seeking to play in the health care information technology arena.
Jews, 58, who stepped down as CareFirst’s CEO in 2006, will advise the company on its growth plan, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Healthcare Interactive was selected to provide software to Healthy Howard, the health care program that provides basics medical care services to uninsured residents of Howard County.
“Bill Jews provides us invaluable strategic insight as well as access into the health care insurance space, a prime target for our future growth,” said Henry Cha, Healthcare Interactive’s president, told the newspaper. “Additionally, his experience and understanding of our innovative health care applications will be utilized to transform and improve efficiencies within our nation’s health care system.”
With health reform expanding the requirements for states to manage information and access to care through health exchanges, starting in 2014, companies like Healthcare Interactive could see an exploding market, the newspaper said.
Jews, who will be paid for his consulting work, can become a director for the company, according to the BBJ report.
CareFirst has about 1.4 million members in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
